Maurizio Renzini speaks of Merton and La Pira at the second national meeting Spes contra spem organized by Fondazione Giorgio La Pira, which has been held on 2 and October 3, 2015 at the Salesian Institute of Florence.
The aim was to delve into various aspects of the great Italian politician, who was also Mayor of the Tuscan capital. In this context, Maurizio Renzini, President of our Association, on the afternoon of the first day, had the opportunity to present a study on the relationship of friendship and the common commitment to peace by Giorgio La Pira and Thomas Merton.
It is based on documentation provided by the Thomas Merton Center and was published in England in volume Universal Vision, organized by the Thomas Merton Society of Great Britain and Ireland. The intervention was much appreciated and applauded by an audience of about 80 people from various parts of Italy, some of which have been able to rediscover the Trappist writer having read some works, others have shown a particular interest in his figure and cultural and spiritual affinity with La Pira. We plan to publish a volume with the various reports submitted to the Conference.
